GEAR REVIEW #1

The first Gear Review. These are some items that I have been using and testing over the past few years.

1. Lifestraw

This compact water filter is a must-have on your future adventures. It is the ultimate survival tool with no shelf life, parasites, microplastics, dirt, sand and cloudiness, removing 99.99999% of bacteria. I discovered this a few years ago and had heard great things, which brought me to the need to find out myself. Testing it in lakes and rivers across Canada, it has well proved its worth. It can filter 4000 L of water (lasts a human up to 5 years!) and weighs less than 46 grams so its super light and easy to pack. One of my favorite pieces of gear and one I always carry with me.

Price: CAD $24.99

2. Full-Windsor Titanium all-in-one Tongs

Spork, Knife, Spatula, and tongs all in one. These things are great for the camper that loves to cook with great tools and minimal space. Very versatile, super light and easy to store, these titanium cookware utensils do not rust and are easy to clean. Using these has allowed me to cut out the majority if not all of my cooking tools, and are long enough to make eating out of cans or dried food packs super easy.

3. MSR Pocket Rocket 2

Made of stainless steel, brass, and aluminum, this is by far one of the best pieces of equipment I have used. Very easy to set up and use and super compact and light. One 227g canister lasts about 60 minutes (I have used it for longer) at full output. It weighs in at just 73g and uses LPG fuel. Boil time is about 3.5 minuts and has 82000BTU output. Paired with the pocket rocket stove it becomes even more efficient. This little guy has saved my meals more time that I can count. In addition, the serrated pot supports allows you to use many different types of pots, cans, bowls etc. highly recommend.

Price: CAD $59.95

4. Naturehike Collapsible Camping chair (Large)

Made form aluminum and alloy this is a great lightweight and easy set up camping chair. It uses collapsible pole frame (like a tent frame) making it easy to transport. It holds up to 300 pounds so is still fairly sturdy for the model of chair. This was chosen because for the price, its honestly pretty solid and way more comfortable than a regular camping chair. Weighing it at approximately 1.28kg, its easy to carry around and add on your pack.

Price: approx. CAD $75.00

5. Leatherman Multitool (signal tool)

An essential piece of equipment, even if you aren’t camping. With a variety of options, these multitools are made for every type of adventurer. For this, I will be talking about the signal model. They are a Canadian Company with amazing Guarantees. Designed for the outdoors, this multi-tool packs a firestarter, hammer, one-handed blade and an emergency whistle. A perfect fit for any adventure, the Signal combines 19 useful tools into a compact, 4.5 inch size and weighs 212.6g. if you want more variety or different options, go to Leathermans site at https://www.leatherman.com/home .
